This is my candied blood orange with dark chocolate recipe, the perfect gift for your Valentine, or even just a thoughtful, yummy gift for a friend. It’s a beautiful mix of the beautiful colour and sweetness of the blood oranges with the bitter taste of the 70% dark chocolate.
The amount of sugar and water depends on the number of blood oranges you have, just be sure the ratio of sugar to water is 1 cup: 1 cup. If you’re using a wide saucepan maybe use 2 cups: 2 cups, so that there is enough depth to cook the orange half moons.
Ingredients:
– blood oranges, cut into 1cm thick half moons
– dark chocolate
– sugar
– water
1. On a low heat stir the sugar and water till all the sugar is dissolved, then increase the heat until you get a rolling boil and add the slices. Cook for roughly 40 minutes, turning the slices every 10 minutes. You want the slices to become translucent…be very careful as the sugar water will bubble and boil and is really hot!
2. Once cooked, take them out of the sugar water and place them onto a cooling rack covered with baking paper. Leave to cool and in the meantime melt your chocolate in a microwave/bain marie.
3. Tip the candied blood orange slices or drizzle and leave to dry.
Package nicely and enjoy!
