Value Meets Quality: Highlights from the Aldi Summer Wine Taste

Value Meets Quality: Highlights from the Aldi Summer Wine Taste

Last Tuesday we had the pleasure to attend Aldi Summer Wine Tasting at the Cliff Town House on D2. The German company, known for matching quality products and affordable prices reflects these values on its 2016 summer wine portfolio.

Here are a few of the afternoon’s favourites:

Lovely Wines, Great Value: Highlights from the Aldi Summer TasteVeuve Monsigny Champagne Brut

12% ABV, €19.99

Pale gold and full of life, this refreshing Champagne is made with equal parts of the region’s triad Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir.

Its timid sweet attack is complemented by pineapple and orange blossom notes that lead the way to a lovely acidity.

Since it’s part of Aldi’s core range, it’s available all year long in all shops.

Lovely Wines, Great Value: Highlights from the Aldi Summer TasteVouvray

11,5% ABV, €8.99

A rich almost syrupy treat from the Loire Valley made with 100% Chenin Blanc.

A sip of it makes you think of lemon sorbet, lime pie and flowery nectar. It’s a good type of sweetness and a delicate wine that will appeal to those that find highly dry or acidic whites just too tangy. Its low alcohol level makes it an ideal summer choice. Pair with chicken or turkey, or with ham and cheese sandwiches for picnic perfection.

This is part of Aldi’s seasonal range, available in all their shops.

Lovely Wines, Great Value: Highlights from the Aldi Summer TasteClairette Du Languedoc

12,5% ABV, €8.99

One of Aldi’s Exquisite Collection whites, this wine shows a fine balance between citrus and white fruit. It’s clear, light-bodied and reminds the palate of a summery lemonade sweetened with a drop of honey but it’s still acidic enough to make your mouth water.

Paired with rich white fish or shrimp will cut the fat without overshadowing the meal.

This is part of Aldi’s seasonal range, available in all their shops.

Lovely Wines, Great Value: Highlights from the Aldi Summer TasteBaron Amarillo Rioja Reserva DOC

13% ABV, €8.99

One of Spain’s most famous DO is well represented in Aldi with this round Tempranillo. Its tannins are present but never harsh and it has all the ripe red fruit that we know and love, plus the extra complexity of dry flowers.

Smooth, easy to drink and  hard to dislike, it’s an approachable and generous red that even those sensitive to the more severe Riojas will appreciate.

It’s part of Aldi’s core range, it’s available all year long in all shops.

Lovely Wines, Great Value: Highlights from the Aldi Summer TasteChianti DOCG

12,5% ABV, €6.99

Tuscany’s icon offered one of the best quality/price ratios from the tasting. It was also a charming take on Italian power trio Sangiovese, Cannaiolo and Ciliegiolo.

Aromas of lemon verbena and pomegranate set the tone of this ligh-bodied red with shy tannins and a distinctive juiciness that makes it ideal to serve with food, especially with Italian food.

It’s part of Aldi’s core range, it’s available all year long in all shops.
